Nov 21, 2012  I assume that Win7 has done some sort of 'tuning' and decided to delay the receive data hoping that more will arrive and fill up the input buffer. I got rid of the data ACK delay by setting the TcpAckFrequency=1 1) How can I reset my Win7 TCP timing so that this delay is gone. 2) How can I stop Win7 from adding the delay back later. Apr 13, 2011  I know that “auto tuning” is one of the features introduced with windows 7/vista to improve OS operations on network. Basically what it does is, it adjusts the TCP window size to improve the network operations. Though it sounds good in theory, I have seen numerous amount of posts over internet where disabling “auto tuning” addressed many issues like, slow data. Windows (Vista/7/8/etc) will automatically set - and more importantly, increase - the size of the TCP receive window for you, as needed, to maximize throughput. Receive Window Auto-Tuning: Microsoft calls this automatic management of the receive window size 'auto-tuning'. However, the TCP auto tuning feature may get things wrong sometimes. Instead of optimal true receive window size, incompatible and out of range RWIN size may be used. By default, Windows in normal auto tuning level will use RWIN size of 256 bytes with a scale factor of 8.

The Receive Window Auto-Tuning feature was introduced in Windows Vista. There, it was not enabled by default. In Windows 10 Anniversary Update, it is enabled out of the box to manage your network transfer data. While it should serve most of users well, in some cases it can reduce your network performance.

To check out the state of Receive Window Auto-Tuning, you can do the following.

  1. Open an elevated command prompt.
  2. Type or paste the following command:
  3. In the command output, look for the line 'Receive Window Auto-Tuning Level'. If its value says 'normal', this means the feature is enabled. If your Internet speed is notably slow, then you can try to disable it.
  4. To disable Receive Window Auto-Tuning, type the following command:
